A registered dog or puppy will be sold as a LIMITED REGISTRATION or FULL REGISTRATION.

FULL REGISTRATION can be used for breeding or showing in conformation along with all other events. Full registration is the type of registration a breeder would want.

LIMITED REGISTRATION is the type of registration a pet or companion owner would want. Limited registration is used for all showing events except conformation.
Limited Registration still means the dog is registered.
Limited Registration means the dog is FULL BLOODED.
Limited registration means the dog still has the qualities of most full registered dogs, it only decides the use of a dog.

Limited registration does not mean the puppy or collie is not champion quality.

To make a collie a champion is sometimes a long complicated expensive process. So that means champion quality collies are not always made into champions.
That also means that not all champion quality pups are sold as only full registration. If a pet buyer wants a nice puppy it is often a pup that would have had a chance to be a champion but there was not timing or a space for a show person to fit in another show puppy.
Also when pups are young it is difficult find the best show pup in a litter so the best pups are often taken by the people that have put down deposits and have waited for a pet pup at the limited registration price.
