We breed for Healthy Collies If a breeder at least has all available tests done on the breeder collies they can better the health chances for the pups by KNOWING what genes are gone wrong. If the breeder does not know then they could be doubling up on some bad things.

We work to breed out all these dog diseases in our collies. (CEA)Collie eye anomaly there is a test to know what you breed together to work toward normal eyes. (MDR1)multi-drug resistance gene there is a test to work toward good collies with no collie sensitivity. (PRA)Progressive retinal atrophy- PRA is a blindness that can be stopped by testing and knowing which parents are bred together (CCH) Canine cyclic hematopoeisis (CANINE CYCLIC NEUTROPENIA) GRAY COLLIE SYNDROME- this can be found early in life. There is a test to find carriers which is a good way to save the genes of a great collie that might be a carrier. The test can prevent breeding two carriers together. (Demodectic mange) This kind of mange can pop up in any breed with no test or clue. It can also be more common in some lines which show us that we do not ever want to breed a collie that has developed this over their body or loss of hair in a large area. This kind of mange can be serious and difficult that never goes away or it can also show up as small minor spots at a young age before a dog had built up normal immunities against the mite. (DM)Dermatomyositis can pop up in any line or any breed but to stop breeding any that are affected or that has litters affected is needed to help prevent more with this terrible disease. (DM) Degenerative Myelopathy  is a serious disease of the spinal cord in the thoracic region. It causes paralysis. IT DOES HAPPEN IN COLLIES TOO. The gene has been identified and we can test the breeding parents for the OFA database to make breeding decisions. A carrier does not mean the parent is bad. We just do not want to breed carrier to carrier. (HD)Hip dysplasia can pop up in any line or any breed but to xray parents can help better the chances. (von Willebrands Disease)blood clotting (BAER)hearing (JRD) Juvenile kidney disease is more common than most know.This is a good test to do and works for a breeder like CEA and PRA to breed out the disease. MDR1 is another good test that can breed out the problem. ( other kidney damage) The mother collie needs to be protected from medications and toxins while pregnant. All dogs and puppies can pick up toxins or diseases brought in by wild animals such as Lepto that can cause kidney disease. (Thyroid disease) thyroid disease can be treated by medication but we feel it can be inherited too so we test for it in our breeding collies.     Health is most important and we strive to breed for the collie standard for proper build and appearance.

We breed for personality because personality is what makes a collie special from any other breed!

A collie is a herding dog and needs a great build to be able to do hard fast work. Agility shows are the proving ground for a good build and we want to see more of our collies entered in agility to show off what we do for collies. That means if you look into showing your honeytree collie in agility we will love bragging about him on our website.

We try to breed for thick coats because a collie is not really a collie without that coat.

We breed for the proper collie standard.  The whole collie package is difficult for anyone to obtain
